Third Edition

Welcome to the third edition of the Ecomorphosis LLC newsletter. As a small business owner, I appreciate your support. The holiday season is here, so this month's focus is last-minute sustainable gifts. We all want to buy meaningful gifts for those we love, so if you still have a few people left on your list, consider these options that are better for our planet than traditional, brand new gifts.

Local Resale

Vintage Espresso maker sold for $13 by Ecomorphosis on eBay.

Buying gifts locally, whether second hand or not, does not require shipping, and therefore cuts down on your carbon footprint. It is also an excellent way to save money! I have purchased many good condition, used items recently; a robot vacuum for $25, a large set of glass storage ware and a soda stream with a lot of accessories for around $20 each.

Oftentimes, you can even find new items locally, especially on Facebook Marketplace. Even while I'm just browsing, I find gifts ideas for other people. Coordinate public meetup, or often sellers are happy to leave it on their porch for you if you leave cash in the item's wake.

Pictured to the above, is an example of good used kitchenware that you can thrift. This item sold for $13.

I have been selling items, both locally and nationally on Marketplace and eBay. If you're in the greater Cincinnati area, I'd be happy to coordinate a meetup spot with you if you're interested in any of the available items.

Examples of recently sold resale consignment items:

  • Kenner Real Ghostbusters The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Plush

  • Vintage Solo in the Spotlight Blonde Barbie Doll

  • Vintage Felsenbrau Clyffside Beer Cincinnati Ohio Working Salt & Pepper Shakers

  • Olevia 32 Inch LCD Energy Star HDTV

  • Vintage Cream Floral Pattern Fringe Lamp Shade

2/5 of those sales were to a local buyer in Cincinnati. The other 3 sold on eBay to someone in Chicago, IL, Beavercreek, OH, and Swansboro, NC. Those are 5 used items that sold for a total of $80.67. Resale consignment clients get paid 40% of the profit (which is $32.27 in this case.) And that's only 5 items. If you have 20 or more used items that are still good that you no longer want anymore, it might be time to contact us at Ecomorphosis.

In general, Ecomorphosis accepts utilitarian household items in good used condition. Collectable items are also accepted on a discretionary basis. You might be surprised what you have in your dust collection, that someone else is looking for. If you have items you no longer want, then:

Gift Experiences

Someone getting a back massage.

From cooking classes, to wine tasting, pottery class, or DIY workshops, there are endless ideas for what you can gift as experiences. I have personally gifted or received a sushi making class at Cincinnati's famous Findlay Market, passes to the Cincinnati Zoo, an hour long massage, and a trip to the Omnimax theater at the Cincinnati Museum Center. You could even buy a gift card to a local restaurant, and insist the person who you give it to goes with you. Don't forget to put it on the calendar so that it doesn't go to waste!

Locally, check out Cincy savers, or nationally, good old Groupon for anywhere in the country. Bonus points if the experience you give is low waste.
